Wine has been consumed for thousands of years for ceremonies, celebrations, and religious practices. Wine comes in different colors and flavors – there’s bitter, sweet, and dry. The colors come in a deep purple, rosy red, and soft pink. There’s a flavor for everyone to like – but how does it effect your body and mind?

I am sure you have heard that a glass of wine or two may be good for you, but how strong does that statement really hold. Large amounts of wine are not good because it can cause vomiting, trouble walking, and even black outs.

Long term use of excessive amounts of wine include mental issues, heart issues, liver problems, and even cancer.

Moderation is key. You may or may not be an avid wine drinker – but here is all the ways wine affects you below. Exceeding three drinks of wine per day can have damaging effects on the heart.

Red wines have some benefits. They can actually relax your stomach and aid in digestion due to the polyphenols that exist in red wine.

If you don’t drink enough water throughout the day, wine can cause dehydration if you are not well hydrated before consuming alcohol.

Red wine in moderation can actually reduce the risk of cancers and depression. For women it can even reduce the chance of getting breast cancer.

Some of the best wines for women include merlot and Chardonnet. Pinot noir has high concentrations of antioxidants, it can be the healthiest choices amongst wine. Wine can even be good for the skin due to the antioxidants like flavonoid, tannin, and resveratrol. These can restore collagen and elastic fibers. Resveratrol is found in the skin of grapes.

The American heart association recommends no more than one glass for women and two glasses per day for men.
