Beat the Fitness Plateau

It can seem difficult getting past a fitness plateau. A fitness plateau is defined as seeing slow to very little results or improvements in yourself. A fitness plateau is not uncommon for many along their health and fitness journey.

Many individuals can feel discouraged when they hit a fitness plateau. The plateau can even cause them to revert back to their unhealthy ways – avoid this at all costs. It can seem nearly impossible to get past a fitness plateau on your own, try incorporating these simple steps into your weekly routine:

1. Increase movement in your day
An easy way to increase the number of calories your burn throughout the day is to increase your movement. This is especially vital for those who have a desk job or low activity throughout their day. Some easy ways to incorporate more steps into your day are taking the stairs, parking further back in the lot, and taking walks in the evening.

2. Take a period of rest
It can be easy to get caught up in overtraining when you hit a fitness plateau. It is best to take a rest rather than overwork yourself. Plan a week out where you can take a break from the gym. It can be adequate recovery time and you will feel refreshed when you return.

3. Take a look at your habits
This is a great time to take a look at your eating, sleeping, and exercising habits. You should take note of what time you begin eating, and what time you stop eating. If you are eating too late into the night, try creating a cut off period where you stop consuming food for the day. Be sure you are getting 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night.
